GREAT MONARCH BUTTERFLY RACE FOR THE BORDER!
Monarch Butterflies from the home of Pollination Station take just over a month to reach their wintering grounds in Mexico. They begin their arrival in Mexico during November and set up winter colonies in only a handful of protected sanctuaries.
To help track this wonderful journey Pollination Station, through the University of Kansas' "Monarch Watch," headstarted, tagged and released over 1500 Monarch Butterflies in the past 5 years. Each Butterfly was assigned a number and vital information was recorded and forwarded to the Monarch Watch Team. **

** Harsh summer weather, reduction of habitat and unprecedented disasters in the overwintering colonies have diminished the population of Monarch Butterflies to an all time low. Headstarting and conservation efforts are critical in order for the Monarch population to reach previous numbers.
